A protest rally against enforced disappearances took place at the Jamiatul Falah ground in Chattogram on Friday afternoon.

Families of victims and survivors shared their experiences and called for justice and punishment for those involved in the disappearances.

Speakers at the rally, including family members of the disappeared, spoke of their pain and the silence from the government.

One mother stated, “My son was taken away five years ago. Even today, I don’t know if he is alive or dead. We want justice, we want our children back.”

A survivor of enforced disappearance said, “I was detained and tortured for no reason. I came back alive, but many did not. We want justice, we want an end to enforced disappearances.”

The speakers presented the following demands:

  1. That all secret detention and disappearance cells, including TFI Goom Cell and Aynaghor, be immediately exposed to the public. Survivors, family members of victims, and journalists should be granted unrestricted access to these facilities.
  2. That the fugitive autocratic leader Hasina, her family, and officials of her regime, who are involved in disappearances, killings, and genocide, be brought to justice through international courts.
  3. That survivors receive appropriate compensation for the economic and psychological damage they have suffered due to enforced disappearances, false accusations, and harassment.
  4. That the government take effective measures to prevent enforced disappearances and state-sponsored oppression in the future.
  5. That false and fabricated cases against individuals be resolved quickly.

Human rights activists and representatives from various social organizations participated in the rally and expressed their solidarity against enforced disappearances.

The rally organizers urged people from all walks of life to speak out against enforced disappearances and announced plans to hold similar rallies and programs in different parts of the country.

The rally concluded with an appeal to the media, social media, and the international community to play a more active role in addressing the issue of enforced disappearances in Bangladesh.
